Communication is a big challenge in South Sudan. There are no land lines. Cell-phone networks are just arriving, and those networks work in limited areas. Satellite phones work, but are expensive to use. Computers are just arriving in the larger towns. Most providers are charging phones and computers with gasoline-powered generators. We're going solar. On this trip, we started our computer lab with one laptop, one modem, and instructions to our field manager on how to send e-mail. And we got to blog from Yel's compound!
